Keeping the correct pH balance in our bodies is vital for ongoing good health.
Eat more leafy greens!” we're told... “Drink grass juices!”, is the cry... “Eat spirulina everyday!”... These are the “super-greens” of nutrition. We know we're supposed to eat them, but do we know why?
To optimize our health, immunity, and energy levels, the ideal balance of food intake is 80% alkaline and 20% acidic. Alkaline-forming foods are mainly vegetables and some fruits. Acid-forming foods include just about everything else we eat, (meat, poultry, milk, cheese, bread, pasta, pastries, snack food, soft drinks, and packaged foods).
Failing to keep that balance can result in loss of minerals that result in reduced bone density associated with osteoporosis. A body that is too acidic has been linked to other conditions including atherosclerosis, kidney and gallbladder stones, and arthritis.
Keeping the balance Eating too many proteins and too few deep green leafy vegetables results in the overproduction of sulphuric, nitric, and phosphoric acids, which are a natural result of protein metabolism.
In order to neutralize this acid ahead of excretion from the kidneys, the body donates alkaline minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium). The body may also use fat cells to store the excess acid.
Taking Green superfoods, green juices, and leafy green vegetables, helps restore the body's natural balance.
