Many of us do not realize how toxic our daily household detergents can be!
They contain chemicals, irritants, and pollutants that affect not only sensitive individuals, pregnant women, the elderly, pets, children, and wildlife, but all of us, too! Yet, they are sold in regular grocery stores as harmless products.
Conventional Cleaners
Conventional detergents contain toxic ingredients and chemicals that are cheap to produce, harsh on us, the planet, and the environment. They are linked with asthma and respiratory damage, skin allergies and irritations, development and reproductive toxicity, posing cancer, and environmental hazards. To keep our house a healthy place, we need to ditch conventional cleaning products and use natural ones!
❌ Besides many popular brands such as Clorox, Ajax, Lysol, Mr. Clean, Arm & Hammer, Up&Up, Windex, with products rated F- toxic by ewg.org, there are many "greenwashing" products around.
Greenwashing Cleaners
❌ Greenwashing companies are filling their “natural" products with synthetic petrochemical, oleochemical emollients, thickeners, detergents, fragrances, and preservatives.
Brands such as Method, Safeway, Green Works (a Clorox company), Babyganics, and Mrs.Meyer’s are still classified as toxic by ewg.org, with products classified D and F.
❌ Many "natural cleaners" contain controversial ingredients mixed in their almost natural formula such as preservatives, dyes, fragrances, surfactants, bleach, alcohol, quats, hydrogen peroxide, or any other harmful chemicals.
Methylisothiazolinone: preservative skin sensitizer, linked to allergies, lung, neurological, and organ toxicity. Plus it is very toxic to aquatic life. Found in BetterLife Brand! Check at the bottom of the page the greenwashing brands.
Since there is no government regulation of the words: “organic” or “ natural.” We need to buy USDA-certified organic products and when not available we need to carefully read the labels.
That’s why we need to have the right information that allows us to buy a better detergent to protect us, our family, pets, and the environment. Use your nose and eyes. Read the ingredients list. Avoid fragranced products and colored liquid products.

Organic White Vinegar Distilled
🍃I noticed that when the handymen are preparing to recaulk the shower, they use white vinegar to remove mold or other contaminants commonly found in humid bathroom spots.
🌿Organic white vinegar is very handy to have around, not just for mold, to clean the refrigerator and freezer, microwave, as a rinse aid in the dishwasher, and to self-clean, the dishwasher or washer machine as it is able to remove the build-up. I usually keep in a spray bottle.
🌱 I also used white vinegar as an ant repellent, and it works!
Microwave cleaning: Measure about 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of vinegar into a microwave-safe measuring cup or bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave. Microwave on high power for 5 minutes so the liquid comes to a boil. Let stand for 2 to 3 minutes. Open the door and carefully remove the measuring cup or bowl, wipe it and that's it.

Branch Basics The Concentrate, I don't recommend this because it has a controversial ingredient!
INGREDIENTS: Purified Water, Decyl Glucoside, Chamomile Extract, Coco-Glucoside, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Phytate.
Sodium Phytate in-household cleaners according to EWG.org Phosphates in detergent cause lake pollution and eutrophication.
Why do we need to pay $50 for a cheap detergent made with sodium phytate responsible for polluting our lakes??!
I prefer Dr. Bronner's: for only $12 you can use it as personal care and household cleaner including dishwashing, safer ingredients, and no lakes pollution.
Sure it is better than Clorox, but why spend all that money on something that is just ok and also associated with general ecotoxicity concerns by ewg.org.
I wish bloggers out there would make more responsible recommendations.

This is a disinfectant, not a household cleaner since its formulation generates a form of chlorine!!
Even though it is much less than in a conventional bleach it is still chlorine!
In fact, the company states: "Those individually allergic to Chlorine should avoid direct contact as it may cause irritation with symptoms of redness, itching, and swelling."
Even you are not allergic to it, you are still breathing and touching chlorine. I find chlorine to be also not eco-friendly!
Their chlorine is in their Hypochlorous acid (HOCI) and Sodium Hydroxide (aka Caustic soda) that is formed during the electrolysis of vinegar, salt, and water.
Chlorine and caustic soda sound eco-friendly to you?
